Home Remedies for Heartburn
Heartburn is felt as a burning sensation behind the sternum or in the epigastrium. This is probably the result of regurgitation of gastric contents into the esophagus and irritation by the hyperacid contents causing burning sensation behind the sternum. This is associated with water brash and pyrosis.
Heartburn Home Remedy
One of the popular home remedies for heartburn is fennel. You may have fennel seeds in your spice rack. You can make a tea by seeping one or two teaspoons of seeds in boiling water. There are also heartburn natural remedies available from companies that sell other herbs and natural products. Many of these include fennel oil.
Avoid eating immediately before bedtime. Anything less than three hours and your stomach will not have had time to process dinner. Lying down make it easier for those stomach acids to leak back to the esophagus.
Eat smaller meals, more slowly. Eating fast or forcing large amounts of food into your stomach can increase the risk of heartburn.
Increase your fiber intake, as it aids in the absorption of excess acid and gas. It helps in flushing out the toxins from your body.
Drink plenty of water at least 8 glasses everyday.
Green tea is also effective in treating heartburn.
Do not lie down or exercise for 2 to 3 hours after you eat. When you are sitting up, gravity helps drain food and stomach acid into your stomach. Avoid eating large meals and snacks just before bedtime.
Avoid chocolate, fatty or fried foods, and peppermint- or spearmint-flavored food.
There are also other home remedies for heartburn that you can try. Antacids are probably the most popular form of heartburn treatment. They act as a neutralizer to the stomach acids that cause the pain. If you have no antacids around the house, drinking a mixture of baking soda and water may do the same job. Milk is another good remedy for heartburn.
Do not drink alcohol, including beer or wine; coffee and other caffeinated drinks; or carbonated drinks.
