Home Remedies For Keloids

Keloids are raised overgrowths of scar tissue that occur at the site of a skin injury. They occur where trauma, surgery, blisters, vaccinations, acne or body piercing have injured the skin. Less commonly, keloids may form in places where the skin has not had a visible injury. Keloids differ from normal mature scars in composition and size. Some people are prone to keloid formation and may develop them in several places.

Keloids Home Remedy

Compression:
Use a bandage or tape to apply pressure continuously for twenty-four hours a day (24hrs/day) for six to twelve months period. Compression can cause a keloid to become smaller.

For keloids that formed at the site of an ear piercing, a clip known as a Zimmer splint reduces keloid size by at least Fifty (50%) after one year of compression.

You can try a variety of treatments to help treat keloids. However, you should know that often newer keloids are easier to treat while the older ones may take slightly longer. Applying apple cider vinegar on the keloids is one of the easiest remedies. If you find the treatment painful, you can dilute the vinegar with water and then apply on the affected area.  Garlic oil is also effective. You can also crush garlic and apply this on the affected area. However, if this causes burning, you should immediately wash it off.

Laser therapy — This is an alternative to conventional surgery for keloid removal. Lasers produce a superficial peel but often do not reduce the bulk of the keloid. The use of dye-tuned lasers has not shown better results than that of cold lasers.

Newer treatments
— Drugs that are used to treat autoimmune diseases or cancer have shown promise. These include alpha-interferon, 5-fluorouracil and bleomycin. However, there is a need for further study and evaluation of this treatment technique.

Keloids often require no treatment. The best home remedy of Keloids is by surgury. Persons who tend to have keloids should neglect cosmetic procedures to their skin. Small keloids may be reduced by freezing them with liquid nitrogen.
