Home Remedies for Whooping Cough
Whooping Cough (Pertussis) is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection caused by a bacterium known as Bordetella pertussis. Although this infection also initially resembles to an ordinary cough and cold, but whooping cough may eventually turn very serious, particularly in small children.
Remedies for whooping Cough:
Keep your child calm
Give lots of liquids to prevent dehydration. Water and juices can be a good choice
Make sure your child gets enough to eat. Frequent small meals may reduce the chance of vomiting
Even though whooping cough can be very tiring and the child may not feel like eating, it is important to keep him or her well nourished
Garlic is one of the most effective home remedies for whooping cough. The syrup of garlic should be given in doses of five drops to a teaspoon, two or three times a day, for treating this condition. It should be given more often if the coughing spells are frequent and violent.
Ginger has proved beneficial home remedies for whooping cough. In 1 cup of Fenugreek decoction, add 1 tsp of fresh ginger juice and some honey for taste. You can prepare the Fenugreek decoction easily at home. In 250 ml water, boil 1 tsp of Fenugreek seeds till it reduces to half.
Almond oil is valuable in whooping cough. Five drops of almond oil should be mixed with ten drops each of fresh white onion juice and ginger juice, and taken thrice daily for a fortnight. It will provide relief.
One teaspoonful of strong pennyroyal tea taken every fifteen minutes, decreasing to every half hour after the cough is checked, is very helpful. Make the tea by using a heaping teaspoonful of the granulated herbs or one-half teaspoonful of the powdered herbs to the cup of boiling water. You may sweeten with a little honey.
You may drink freely the thick slippery elm tea which is extremely good in whooping coughs. You may add lemon if you wish.
