How to Treat Sprains With Home Remedies
Sprain are the stretch or tear of the ligament and ligaments are the fibrous tissues that connect two or more bones and form a joint. Ligament is a very soft tissue. The ankles, knees and wrist are more susceptible to sprains instead of others. In sprain one or more ligaments can be injured at same time.
Sprains Home Remedies
Mix one tablespoon of camphor oil and sunflower oil and massaging the affected part is really helpful.
Apply olive oil and egg yolk on the affected part, cover with a cotton pad and bandage for two days to get relief from sprain. Repeating the bandage after two days is a suggested home remedy for sprain.
Take a tablespoon of black coffee in a bandage and applying on the affected part is a suggested remedy to get relief from the pain.
Take the outer leaves of cabbage, put in hot water and leave for few minutes. Bandaging the leaves for 10-15 minutes around the affected part is also an effective home remedy for sprain.
Cold compresses of sweet-smelling witch hazel followed by a gentle rub with rosemary oil (see page 27) and applied sympathetic attention will usually cure the matter in minutes. On the beach a twisted ankle can be temporarily eased by a bandage of bladder wrack (seaweed).
The dried flower heads of the Arnica plant contain chemical compounds that help heal sprains and relieve muscle pain. You could look for Arnica tincture, cream or ointment in health food stores. Apply directly to the injured area.
Compression: When you’re not applying an ice pack, wrap the injured joint with an elastic bandage. This reduces swelling and helps minimize your discomfort as your joint heals. Keep using the bandage for several days.
Elevation: To regulate the flow of blood to the site of the sprain, raise the injured joint above the level of your heart. Later on, switch to heat. Once your swelling has begun to subside, replace the ice packs with heat. You can soak the affected joint in tolerably hot water or apply a heated gel pack.
Arnica balm or ointment can be used as cream or a compress for the affected area.
Horse chestnut is also very useful for such injuries. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties and presence of a compound called aescin it becomes beneficial for all kinds of injuries. You can spread this gel on the affected area every two hours till the pain subsides.
